Rachael Smith joins Woolfox to teach Mat Pilates classes. Rachael’s classes are designed to address multiple areas – from sports injury rehab, pre and post-natal fitness and muscle strength and flexibility Her classes are designed to challenge all levels of fitness and achieve maximum strengthening and lengthening in a 60 min class.
Can you tell us about your journey into Pilates?
I started Pilates when I was returning to exercise from an injury. I saw how much benefit I gained from Pilates and loved the way it challenged my core muscles. I decided to train in mat and reformer 13 years ago and have loved the challenge of teaching to a wide variety of clients and seeing how Pilates has transformed their life.
What would you say to someone who has never tried Pilates?
Pilates is an investment to your body, its worth the time and effort to join classes, Pilates is for everyone and you are encouraged to work at a level that is comfortable for you. You will start to notice the difference after a few classes and become more aware of how the body needs to move and feel stronger and leaner as you progress through the weeks.
What’s your top tip for returning to exercise?
Listen to your body, start off slowly and gradually build up your stamina and strength over time. Try and do a mixture of cardio, strength, and flexibility for a balanced approach which will reduce injury and let you enjoy returning back to exercise.
What brings you to Rutland?
Family and the beautiful surroundings in this area. Stamford is accessible and Rutland is a great place to bring up children.
What do you do when you’re not practising Pilates?
I love practising yoga, food is a great passion of mine so restaurants is top of my list. I love theatre and seen most of the shows in London and if I have a quiet moment mandala dot painting.
How would you describe Woolfox in three words?
