Loved by all Members, young and old, Nick Garland is Woolfox’s resident Golf Professional
When did you start playing golf?
I started playing golf at 15 at my local driving range. I loved it straight away and knew it was something I wanted to always be involved in…but to what extent I didn’t know.
Most frequently asked questions from experienced golfers?
By far the most frequently asked question from golfers of all levels is: How do I transfer my range swing to the course? This is something I take pride in and something I really focus on with my students.
Top tips for someone looking to start golf?
Book in a lesson with me!
Don’t overthink your swing, just hit lots of balls and keep it fun and chilled. Don’t look at YouTube to try and improve your golf swing just keep it simple and learn how to develop your own skills and feels. The driving range here at Woolfox is ideal for beginners. We offer a relaxed atmosphere and have golf clubs for you to use at your leisure if you don’t have your own.
You host junior classes at Woolfox, how old do they need to be before they can start playing?
I’m pleased to offer junior classes at Woolfox, bookable on Saturday mornings. The age range for a group junior session would be 6 to 10 years old. In terms of when a junior should starting playing… As young as you can! Like I say I started when I was 15 and I wish I started 10 years younger. With my juniors I recommend playing tennis, this really helps juniors swing and how to release the club properly. This coincides with our panel tennis courts going in this spring. A great way to get into both sports.
Where’s your favourite course?
Augusta National is every golfers dream course and I’m no different. A golf club I have been to in the uk which totally blew me away was Loch Lomond golf club.
Best thing about Woolfox?
Is how relaxed I feel when I am here. I look forward to coming to work everyday and interacting with members and my students. The vibe here at Woolfox is truly special and I feel very proud to be one of the professionals here.
